Job summary

Community Teamwork in Lowell, MA is seeking an Assistant Center Director to manage daily center operations, supervise staff, and engage families in high-quality early education programs. The role ensures compliance with Head Start and state regulations and supports curriculum development with a focus on equity and inclusion.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree in early childhood education, supervisory experience, and a passion for serving diverse, low-income families.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in early childhood education required.
  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience in an early education setting required.
  • Strong proven leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Desire to work with low income, culturally diverse, and at‑risk families and individuals.
  • Excellent Customer Service, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection systems.
  • Proof of recent physical and MMR immunity
  • Ability to pass background check which includes fingerprinting.
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure, with the Center Director, the effective day to day operations of the Center and assume the role of the Center Director in their absence.
  • Ensure Head Start and Early Education programs are in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Make recommendations for hiring, promotions and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain and improve the highest quality program staffing by providing onboarding, orientation and training.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to assigned staff, and communicate effectively expectations and desired outcomes
  • Schedule and arrange for substitutes, in collaboration with Teachers, to ensure that staff ratios are consistently met.
  • Ensure that classroom environments are nurturing, educational and support the individual needs of children.
  • Collaborate with the Education Coach to ensure quality of classroom instruction by monitoring and conducting regular observations and walkthroughs.
  • Direct the development and assessment of weekly curriculum plans.
  • Serve as a resource to the teaching staff on program policies and procedures.
  • Actively engage families to be part of the center activities and the child's educational experience.
  • Actively work with families to identify specific personal and family needs and provide referrals to community resources that can help meet these needs.
  • Maintain accurate client case records and reports as required and update client information in Child Plus database.
  • Conduct monthly one on one supervision with employees and create annual year end professional development plans.
  • Prepare and deliver timely, constructive, and comprehensive performance reviews in accordance with organizational deadlines and performance management policies.
