Job summary

The American School for the Deaf seeks an Assistant Camp Director for the Isola Bella summer program in Salisbury, CT. You’ll support the Camp Director, lead camp activities, and coordinate schedules to ensure safe, engaging experiences for deaf and hard-of-hearing youth.

Ideal candidates hold ASL proficiency, leadership experience, and a Bachelor’s degree is preferred; background checks and safety certifications are expected or strongly encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Over 21 years old with ability to pass DCF and DPS background checks.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; minimum 2 years experience with deaf and hard-of-hearing youth.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid and Lifeguard Training certificates encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Summer Program in cooperation with the Camp Director.
  • Supervise evening programs and sports activities as planned by Team Leaders.
  • Perform Camp Director duties in their absence.
  • Assist in scheduling, planning, and field trips.
  • Assist in program development and evaluation.
  • Maintain a daily log of camp activities.
  • Assist in staff recruitment and scheduling.
  • Guide Team Leaders with camp activities and lead the camp leadership team.
  • Coordinate staff schedules, camper activities, and daily programming.
