Key qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 1–3 years of purchasing experience, with strong Microsoft Office skills and experience in SAP or purchasing software.

The Assistant Buyer is responsible for supporting Hubbell’s purchasing and procurement activities. This role involves assisting in selecting and sourcing products , negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory levels , and maintaining vendor relationships .

  • Qualifying vendors, evaluating bids, and negotiating prices and terms for purchased goods and services
  • Tracking purchases, monitoring vendor quality, and maintaining a current database of vendor information
  • Reviewing and analyzes purchase requisitions
  • Coordinating purchasing activities with service, manufacturing, planning, and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner
  • Processing purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers
  • Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity; creates and maintains bills of material and parts/commodities numbers in supply chain management or other enterprise-wide systems
  • Performing cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities (e.g., materials, components, equipment, and services)
  • Monitoring the cost, scheduling, and scope of assigned subcontracts to negotiate highest quality at best value. Developing new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive
  • May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis or alternative sourcing
  • Contributing to team efforts by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business , Management, Marketing, or related field (preferred)
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in purchasing or procurement (required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (required)
  • Experience with purchasing software and/or SAP highly preferred
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Abi lity to take direction and accomplish tasks with minimum supervision, accurately and meeting deadlines
  • Adapt easily and positively to change and demonstrates flexibility
