Job summary

Town of Berlin is seeking an Assistant Building Official to oversee and enforce building codes across the city under the Building Official. You will review plans, inspect structures, and manage permit applications to ensure compliance with the International Building Code as adopted in Connecticut.

Ideal candidates hold the required certification, have strong knowledge of building codes, and are proficient with common software.

Qualifications

• Certification as an Assistant Building Official is required.
• Working knowledge of CT State Building Code and IBC.
• Proficiency with common software: spreadsheets, word processing and email.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections for plumbing, electrical, mechanical trades and other work.
• Review drawings and plans prior to permit issuance.
• Utilize permit software; calculate and assign permit fees.
• Assist the Fire Marshal in hazard analysis and investigations.
• Maintain safety procedures and promote energy conservation.
