Description

Assists in overseeing and performing commercial and residential building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing inspection activities within the Town. Manages building inspections and verifies zoning and sign regulation compliance within the Town.

Examples of Duties

• Enforces building codes and zoning ordinances of the Town.
• Checks plans and specifications for new construction, alterations, and repairs for compliance with regulations.
• Inspects buildings during construction, alteration, or demolition for code compliance.
• Ensures construction safety standards are met according to approved plans.
• Inspects quality of materials and construction methods across various systems.
• Provides information to the public regarding code and ordinance requirements.
• Requires corrections for deficiencies and assists in compliance.
• Maintains permit and inspection records.
• Recommends condemnation for unsafe or defective structures.
• Follows personnel, safety, and departmental policies.
• Informs supervisor of activities and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license with a compliant driving record.

Education

• Texas Plumbing Inspector’s License required.
• Five ICC certifications including Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing Inspector, and one additional ICC Inspector certification.

Work Experience

• At least seven years of building inspection experience, municipal preferred.
• Supervisory experience required.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of building construction and systems.
• Excellent communication, supervisory, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle citizens effectively.

Physical Abilities

• Able to see, hear, and work in adverse conditions.
• Capable of climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting up to 50 lbs, and other physical activities.
