Assistant Building Maintenance Technician

Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician is under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Superintendent and/or Lead Maintenance Technician. This role involves construction and maintenance duties to support City of Gulfport facilities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Inspect buildings and conduct preventive maintenance.
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and construction repairs.
  • Carry out semi-skilled maintenance tasks including lighting, HVAC, and carpentry.
  • Operate tools and equipment related to maintenance.
  • Respond to after-hours service calls, including weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of building maintenance methods, materials, tools, and blueprints.
  • Understanding of safety precautions and hazard awareness.
  • Ability to follow instructions, troubleshoot, and resolve issues independently.
  • Skills in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
  • Ability to operate construction equipment safely.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; two years of experience in building trades.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Mississippi driver’s license required.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting (up to 100+ pounds with assistance), and outdoor/indoor work environment.
