This position serves as an Assistant Bridge Maintenance Engineer in the Division Bridge Maintenance office. It is responsible for assisting the Division Bridge Maintenance Engineer with administration and planning of Bridge Maintenance Crew Operations, addressing Critical Finds, Priority Maintenance, and Recommended Repairs of Inventory Structures; managing Purchase Orders and Small Business Enterprise Contracts for the maintenance and repair of Bridge Maintenance Structures; overseeing the Bridge Maintenance Budget; and other duties as required. The applicant should utilize professional engineering skills to conduct investigations and determine repairs to resolve bridge maintenance and safety issues, supervise technicians in inspecting and maintaining bridge inventory and non-inventory assets, and prepare and administer contracts. Knowledge of materials used in bridge and culvert construction and maintenance is required. The role involves evaluating employee performance, establishing and maintaining good working relationships, promoting safety, and interpreting construction plans. Proficiency in operating computers with Microsoft, Wigins, and SAP applications is necessary. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors may be required.
