Job summary

The Sumter School District is seeking an Assistant Boys Track Coach at Bates Middle School. This position requires leadership of the boys track program, adherence to district safety policies, and collaboration with the Athletic Director and Principal.

Qualified candidates should have at least five years of coaching experience and possess or be able to obtain South Carolina educator certification. Salary will be determined by credentials and experience in accordance with district pay schedule.

Qualifications

• Alternatives to these qualifications may be acceptable as determined by the Board.

Responsibilities

• Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of the athletic program.
• Ensures health and safety of student athletes; follows safety and first aid procedures and emergency procedures; ensures prerequisites like a physical exam.
• Promotes positive relationships with parents and student athletes; conducts parent meetings before the season.
• Ensures program complies with school and District rules, the SC High School League, and related policies; communicates policies to team members.
• Ensures appropriate behavior of coaching staff, players, and team personnel at all times.
• Promotes the sports program through fundraising, camps, and team activities.

Rate of Pay: Based upon credentials and experience in accordance with the district-approvedpay schedule.

Performance Responsibilities:.

• Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
• Responsible for the health and safety of student athletes. Ensures that proper safety and first aid procedures are followed at all times. Follows all appropriate emergency procedures. Makes sure that all participants have a valid physical examination before participation.
• Promotes and maintains positive relationships with parents and student athletes. Conducts parent meetings prior to the beginning of the season.
• Ensures that the sports program complies with the rules and regulations of the school and District, the South Carolina High School League, affiliated Conference and Region. Complies with all other legal requirements of school athletic programs. Communicates to members of his/her team all policies, rules, procedures, and requirements as they pertain to the team.
• Ensures appropriate behavior of assigned coaching staff, players, and other team personnel at all times.
• Ensures punctual attendance at scheduled coaches' meetings and rules clinics. Promotes the sports program bysponsoring fundraisers, sponsoring youth camps, attending team camps, etc.

Terms: Salary and work year to be recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.

Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Sumter School District Board policy.
