Job summary

Ohio County Schools is seeking an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. Reporting to the Head Coach, the ideal candidate will support skill development, practice planning, and game preparation across the season.

The role requires WV teaching certificate or WV Coach Authorization, ability to enforce discipline, and collaboration with the Athletic Director and school administration to maintain safe, fair, and compliant athletic programs.

Qualifications

• Valid WV teaching certificate or WV Coach Authorization required.
• Must pass a background check.
• Knowledge of coaching principles and practices is essential.
• Knowledge of budgeting and financial arrangements.
• Knowledge of district policies and regulations as they pertain to coaching and athletic activities.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all federal, state, and district laws and policies.
• Promote and adhere to the district mission, core beliefs, academic goals, and target areas.
• Coach's individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sports involved.
• Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.
• Prepare eligibility list for all students in his or her program. This list should be shared with the building Principal and Athletic Director.
• Work closely with the Athletic Director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.
• Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
• Supervise the storage and care of equipment.
• Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted.
• Enforce discipline and sportsmen like behavior. Establish and manage penalties for each breach of such standards by individual students,
• Evaluate each member of his or her staff in accordance with Ohio County Schools Policy. All evaluations shall be submitted to the Athletic Director two weeks after the close of the season.
• Complete a typewritten inventory of the equipment at the close of the sport season and a basic list of needs for the following year.
• Appoint an individual to call in all home scores to the news media.
• Attend, with assistance, all Booster Club meetings.
• Prepare a list of all letter and award winners and oversee the distribution of all such letters and awards.
• Observe and be responsible for all items that pertain to Regulation 4020.01.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
