Overview

Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy (IMSA) - Assistant Coach, Boys Basketball (2025-26)

IMSA is seeking an Assistant Coach for the Boys Basketball team for the 2025-26 academic year. Preference will be given to candidates with high school coaching experience. This stipend position is based on coaching experience.

The assistant coach must:

• Pass a background check and a CPR/AED basic life-saving course.
• Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license to operate IMSA vehicles, including up to a 14-passenger mini-bus (no additional endorsements needed).

Under the guidance of the Head Coach, the candidate will assist in practices, drills, and conditioning to enhance athlete performance, and help manage team activities, including:

1. Conducting practices aligned with the head coach's philosophy.
2. Coordinating with food service staff to provide meals for off-campus events.
3. Attending practices and matches from the season start to potential state finals, including open gym sessions.
4. Transporting students to games during the season.

Candidates must meet one of the following IHSA By-Laws requirements:

• Possess a completion certificate from an approved IHSA coaching course (e.g., ASEP). IHSA Coaching Course
• Hold a valid teaching or school-related certification, or be retired from teaching.
• Complete all IHSA and Illinois mandated training modules as prescribed.
