Overview

Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking an individual to fill the role of "Assistant Coach" for the Boys Basketball team for the upcoming 25-26 academic year.

Experience in high school coaching is preferred. This is a stipend position based on coaching experience. The assistant coach must pass a background check, complete a CPR/AED basic life-saving course, and possess a valid Illinois driver’s license to operate IMSA vehicles, including up to a 14-passenger mini-bus. No additional tests or endorsements are required for vehicle operation.

The candidate will work under the direction of the Head Coach and should be capable of assisting in practices, drills, and conditioning to improve athlete performance, as well as managing team activities. Responsibilities include:

1. Conducting practices aligned with the head coach's philosophy.
2. Coordinating with food service staff to provide meals for off-campus events.
3. Attending practices and matches from the start of the season through potential state finals, including assisting with open gym times.
4. Transporting students to games during the season.

Candidates must have or be willing to obtain one of the following as per IHSA By-Laws:

• Possession of a completion certificate for an approved IHSA coaching course (e.g., ASEP). IHSA Coaching Education
• Current valid certification such as Teaching, School Administrator, Substitute Teaching, School Psychologist, School Counselor, or School Social Worker, or be retired from teaching, to meet IHSA coaching requirements.
• Completion of all IHSA mandatory training modules and any Illinois-mandated training modules, as prescribed by GCN/OneNet.
