Job summary

Eastern Oregon University in Oregon’s Rural University is accepting applications for an Assistant Baseball Coach with strong hitting and outfield knowledge. The position is part-time (.25 FTE), 9-month, within the Athletics Department and reports to the Head Baseball Coach.

Responsibilities include recruiting, player development, travel coordination, academic monitoring, and assisting with summer camps and administrative duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• One year of collegiate baseball player or coaching experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• First Aid/ CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

• Recruiting: assist head coach to research, scout and contact prospective student-athletes within NAIA and institutional guidelines.
• Training: design and monitor team activities per NAIA and institutional regulations.
• Competitions: help develop game plans and strategies; support team performance.
• Public relations/fundraising: participate in media interviews and represent the university at events.
• Administrative duties: schedule facilities, coordinate travel and camps; collaborate with staff.

Job Description Summary

Eastern Oregon University ( EOU ) is excited to announce that it is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Baseball Coach with strong hitting and outfield knowledge . The position of Assistant Baseball Coach is a part-time .25 FTE , 9-Month position in the Athletics Department and reports directly to the Head Baseball Coach.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recruitment of prospective student-athletes; development of the team/players by coaching; travel coordination; monitoring academic performance; and building positive social skills. This position will also perform administrative duties; assist with summer camp responsibilities; and other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Baseball Coach Assists the head coach in all facets of the program to develop an elite NAIA Baseball program that will be competitive and advance the team in competition, academics, and in the community. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess the ability to lead, teach and coach student-athletes in a challenging environment as well as building a strong and successful team culture.

The Eastern Oregon University Assistant Baseball Coach is expected to adhere to the NAIA Coaches Code and EOU’s Athletic Department’s guiding principles:

(1) Support the physical, emotional, social, and mental development of student-athletes through a robust system of care and support that produces quality student-athlete experiences.

(2) Support high standards for academic excellence, assisting in academic oversight.

(3) A competent pursuit of athletic excellence shown by competing for Cascade Conference titles and participating in NAIA postseason play by advancing to the national championships.

(4) Embrace the responsibility for equitable treatment and promotion of diversity, acceptance, and inclusion.

(5) Encourage department innovation for enhanced success, and cultivate a mindset for growth, professional development, work-life integration, and department financial vitality.

Responsibilities

Recruiting
Assist the Head Coach to successfully research, scout, evaluate and contact prospective student-athletes while operating within the guidelines of the department, institution, and NAIA at all times.

Training
Assist the Head Coach to design, conduct and monitor all athletically related activities per NAIA and institutional regulations regarding competition, practice, and conditioning opportunities.

Work with the Head Coach to evaluate student-athletes performance in competition, practice, and conditioning situations in order to identify strengths and areas of improvement.

Provide leadership during competition, practice, and conditioning sessions to facilitate proper technique and attitudes towards each other, opponents, and athletic department.

Competitions
Assist in the development of sound game plans and strategies for the team in preparation of competitions.

Assist team-related game day activities including practices, pre and postgame meals, travel, lodging, and any related functions.

Public Relations/Fundraising
Participate in public relations activities as approved by taking part in interviews with print, radio, or television media.

Represent the university at professional, civic, booster, or alumni events as requested.

Take an active role in any general Booster Club and/or department activities intended to secure resources for the department. Be actively engaged in a civic organization of your choice.

Administrative Duties
Assist with the development of overall facility schedules as it relates to competitions, practice, visiting teams, and camps.

Cooperate with all other coaches and staff in order to further enhance the operations of the entire department and university.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
• One (1) year of experience as a collegiate baseball player and or baseball coaching experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Commitment to promote an atmosphere of compliance and adherence to institutional, conference, and NAIA rules and regulations.
• First Aid/ CPR Certified.
• Mental Health First Aid Training.
• Current and Valid Drivers license with a clean driving record.
• Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
• In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
