Job summary

Columbia University in New York, NY seeks an Assistant Banquet Manager to oversee daily banquet operations under Catering Operations. You will supervise setup, function flow, and breakdown; train staff; and coordinate scheduling to ensure flawless events.

You will act as liaison with host and kitchen teams to deliver exceptional guest service. The role requires a bachelor's degree and up to two years in food and beverage service; leadership, organization, and communication skills; and

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent guest service. Greets event host and maintain communication with host throughout the event to ensure complete guest satisfaction. Works closely with kitchen and stewarding staff to effectively communicate all timing of food functions.
  • Directs set-up and function flow for events. Provides functional supervision of Porters, and/or Catering Delivery Staff during set-up as well as supervision of wait staff during assigned functions. Assists with the scheduling of Catering Delivery, waiters, bartenders, and coffee service.
  • Assists with the recruitment of service personnel. Trains and counsels service employees and ensures that all policies and/or guidelines of the guest service standards are followed.
  • Assists with the coordination of payroll tasks for banquet staff members. Coordinates requisition of liquor prior to function; requisition soda, dry goods, and other storeroom items. Assists sales staff with proposed room set-up and capacities.
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards; ensures organization and cleanliness of all storage rooms and storage spaces. Inspects banquet rooms to ensure proper set-up and cleanliness. Communicates any urgent repairs to relevant department. Maintains updated punch list for Engineering and/or Facilities departments.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, Catering Operations the Assistant Banquet Manager will assist with the oversight of daily Banquet functions and activities. Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of event software such as Delphi or EMS is desired
  • Hotel/restaurant degree
  • Knowledge of international foods/cuisine, foreign and domestic wine
  • Familiarity with Continental and French Cuisine; upscale Banquet service and operations
  • Knowledge of the New York Metropolitan area
