Job description

Our gourmet bakery located in Melville is seeking an Assistant Bakery Manager for its busy department. High volume baking experience and an eye for detail is required for this position. Our Assistant Bakery Managers support our Bakery Managers, supervise our baking staff, and help manage all bakery operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Bakery Manager with the daily operations of our Bakery Department.
• Lead by example, providing excellent customer service to all customers, including counter, in-person orders, and online orders.
• Support our Bakery team with food safety and sanitation standards.
• Assist with the hiring and training process for the Bakery Department, with guidance from the Bakery Manager.
• Maintain our standard of service and production during high volume holidays.
• Inspect Bakery items to ensure that the display meets our standards, quality, uniformity, and showcase appeal.
• Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; Pastry Chef training is a plus.
• 3+ years of experience working in a Bakery, with at least 2 years in a management position.
• A food handler's license is required.
• In-depth knowledge of Bakery operations, including experience in hiring, training, and scheduling employees.
• The ability to work under pressure during busy holidays.
• Must be able to speak, read, and communicate in the English language.
• Great communication skills with a drive to provide excellent customer service.

Working Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
• May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
• Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
• Occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
