Join the production team behind world-class performances at The Noorda Center. This hands-on role supports audio and video systems for concerts, theatre, dance, and special events while working alongside professional staff and student technicians.
Job Responsibilities
Performs production-related duties throughout all stages of an event, including load-in, rehearsals, performances, and load-out.
- Maintains the SOA Sound/Video Shop inventory in all performance spaces through ongoing inventory control, maintenance, and repair.
- Operates audio consoles and video projection equipment for rehearsals and performances as needed. Perform other show-related calls as required.
- Participates in production meetings, follows through on planning and scheduling, interprets designs and plans, assists in creating estimates, and prepares paperwork for execution of productions.
- Assists other shop areas with supervision, training, setup, or takedown operations as assigned.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned.
Troubleshoots operational and technical issues and recommends the purchase of supplies and equipment, subject to approval.
Ensures departmental records and documentation are accurate, current, and properly maintained.
Graduation with a high school diploma or GED.
Knowledge
- Understanding of the maintenance and operation of audio and video equipment and systems for use in live settings.
- Knowledge of live audio mixing involving multiple microphones/sources.
- Knowledge of digital mixing consoles including, but not limited to, Yamaha and DiGiCo.
- Knowledge of and experience with QLab software.
- Knowledge of Ohm's Law, different audio/video signals, and basic audio physics.
Skills
- Proficiency with QLab software.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Skills in reading and understanding theatrical sound plots.
- Understanding of stage directions and sound stage plots.
- Skills in repairing and maintaining audio and video systems: speakers, cables, mics, and power distribution.
- As appropriate, collaborate with staff in other units and divisions to achieve the university's goals.
- Strong computer skills and an understanding of spreadsheets, calendars, and time management applications.
- Strong organizational skills: deadline-driven with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Abilities
- Ability to work with large-scale rental packages.
- Experience with sound for live entertainment across a variety of performance genres, including various styles of dance (modern, ballet, ballroom, etc.), opera, musical theatre, drama, outdoor performances, concerts (classical, contemporary, jazz, headliner), etc.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights using ladders, lifts, and fall arrest equipment.
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds solo and heavier with assistance.
- Ability to learn new technologies and apply them to production challenges.
- Must be able to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including nights and weekends. (Most Sundays are dark, but occasionally Sunday work cannot be avoided.)
- Must be able to work as part of a team; this is a very hands-on position.
- Must be able to lead teams to accomplish tasks promptly.
- Ability to work with students and part-time employees of varied skills; training as required and supervising effectively.
- Ability to cross over and assist in all areas of theatrical production.
