Job summary

The Office of the Attorney General, Department of Law in Georgia seeks an Assistant Attorney General - Ethics and Elections to provide advice and representation to the Secretary of State and related commissions.

The role handles a broad range of litigation, prepares pleadings and discovery, and supports the Ethics and Elections framework while enforcing state law and promoting transparency.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited law school and a member of the Georgia Bar in good standing.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who possess general litigation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Handles cases at every stage of litigation in state and federal courts.
  • Conducts legal research and keeps abreast of recent legal developments in the field.
  • Prepares pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Prepares discovery requests and responses, including e-discovery.
  • Takes and defends depositions.
  • Provides general legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies.
  • May be called upon to present training material to client agencies.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars as required.

Job Summary

Attorneys in this section provide advice and representation to the Secretary of State and Ethics Commission, the State Election Board, the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission, and the Public Defenders
Council.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Handles cases at every stage of litigation in state and federal courts.
  • Conducts legal research and keeps abreast of recent legal developments in the field.
  • Prepares pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Prepares discovery requests and responses, including e-discovery.
  • Takes and defends depositions.
  • Provides general legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies.
  • May be called upon to present training material to client agencies.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars as required.
  • Travel, as required by the position (typically travel is limited).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
