The Office of the Attorney General in Georgia seeks an Assistant Attorney General for Ethics and Elections to support the Government Services & Employment Division. This role develops and enforces laws, provides legal counsel to state agencies, and upholds constitutional duties while advancing the public interest.

Ideal candidates will hold a Georgia law degree, be admitted to the Georgia Bar, and have strong litigation experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the Georgia Bar.
  • Preference given to applicants with general litigation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Handles cases at every stage of litigation in state and federal courts.
  • Conducts legal research and keeps abreast of recent legal developments.
  • Prepares pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Prepares discovery requests and responses, including e-discovery.
  • Takes and defends depositions.
  • Provides general legal advice to clients/agencies.

Job Description

The Office of the Attorney General Department of Law Assistant Attorney General - Ethics and Elections The mission of the Department of Law is to serve the citizens of the State of Georgia by providing legal representation of the highest quality to the agencies, officers, and employees of state government and by honorably and vigorously carrying out the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Attorney General. The position filled through this announcement will serve in our Government Services & Employment Division.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Handles cases at every stage of litigation in state and federal courts.
  • Conducts legal research and keeps abreast of recent legal developments in the field.
  • Prepares pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Prepares discovery requests and responses, including e-discovery.
  • Takes and defends depositions.
  • Provides general legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies.
  • May be called upon to present training material to client agencies.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars as required.
  • Travel, as required by the position (typically travel is limited).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited law school and a member of the Georgia Bar in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who possess general litigation experience.
