Assistant Athletic Trainer – Cypress Ridge High School (2026-2027)

Location: Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, Cypress Ridge High, Houston, Texas

Job Description
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university.
    • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the Texas Department of Health.
    • National Athletic Trainers' Association certification preferred.
    • Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Terms of Employment: Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days
  • Salary: $64,207 (IA-3) – Salary Range based on experience set by the Board of Trustees for the school year.
  • Essential Functions:
    • Assist in implementing acute injury/illness management, rehabilitation procedures, operation of therapeutic devices, application of braces/guards/tape, referrals, maintain medical records, coordinate annual athletic physicals.
    • Assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program for student athletes.
    • Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned by the athletic director.
    • Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical and paramedical personnel, coaches, and other staff.
    • Assist in providing physical conditioning training to student athletes.
    • Assist in preparing athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and applying tape, wraps, splints, braces, and other protective devices as needed.
    • Assist in responding to emergencies, identifying acute injuries, making quick independent judgments, and providing first‑aid triage, including assessing injuries and deciding if an athlete should seek further medical attention or discontinue participation.
    • Assist in establishing procedures for coaches or assistants to follow during medical emergencies.
    • Assist in detecting and resolving environmental risks to athletes.
    • Assist in determining therapeutic goals and objectives for individual athletes and in planning and implementing rehabilitation and reconditioning programs for injuries and illnesses sustained by student athletes.
    • Assist in applying therapeutic modalities and instructing athletes on proper use of exercise equipment.
    • Assist in selecting, training, and supervising student assistants.
    • Assist in revising and implementing the annual sports medicine program budget.
    • Assist in conducting annual CPR, AED, and first aid training and recertification of district personnel.
    • Assist in compiling, maintaining, and filing physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents, including medical, accident, and treatment records as required.
    • Assist in overseeing training room operations, maintaining inventory of training supplies and equipment, and requisitioning additional supplies as needed.
    • Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential job function.
  • Working Conditions:

    Mental, physical, and environmental demands include prolonged standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, frequent driving, moderate grasping, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, walking, and light to moderate lifting. Exposure to outdoor elements, noise, and travel, as well as irregular and extended hours, is expected. Mental demands require emotional control under stress.
