Position Summary:The Assistant Athletic Trainer works autonomously under the supervision of the director of sports medicine and director of athletics. The individual supervises the care of student-athletes competing in North Central College’s athletics programs. The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by student-athletes within the College’s comprehensive sports medicine program. The assistant athletic trainer may also serve as a preceptor for the students in the North Central College Master’s in Athletic Training Program.
Description of Key Responsibilities:Note that all functions described below must be performed, and it is normally the responsibility of the individual in this position to perform them and/or see that they are performed.
1. Supervise and guide the health care of intercollegiate athletes, including prevention, initial care, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses.
2. Providing counseling and education to our student-athletes.
3. Assist with the coordination and scheduling of medical care for home and away competitions.
4. Supervision, education, and evaluation of athletic training students.
5. Interprofessional work with other allied health professionals to deliver care to student-athletes.
6. Healthcare delivery is done in conjunction with the patient and maintains them at the center of the care.
7. Provide medical coverage outlined in the college’s medical care policies and procedures manual.
8. Maintain assigned documentation and record keeping for the athletic training department.
9. Other athletic training administrative duties as assigned by the director of sports medicine.

This person is responsible for assisting in the administration of healthcare and therefore, this person should be organized and professional in dealing with students, other health care professionals, and a good representative of the College. Exceptional interpersonal skills are essential along with the ability to demonstrate whole patient care philosophy. This person must also be open for interprofessional collaboration.
Education/Training:Bachelor’s degree or entry level master’s degree from CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program in appropriate area of specialization with professional experience in collegiate athletics. Master’s degree in related area strongly preferred.
Currently Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC); Experience supervising athletic training students preferred. Familiarity with NCAA Division III governing rules.
Illinois State Licensure or eligible. Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record strongly preferred.
