Job description

Assistant Athletic Director/Athletic Trainer

The Assistant Athletic Director/Athletic Trainer collaborates with the Athletic Trainer in delivering athletic training services to Villa Maria Academy’s athletic students with the goal of optimizing their performance athletic ability. This would include providing emergency care, developing injury prevention programs, as well as assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of the student athlete whose conditions are within the professional preparation and education of a certified athletic trainer, with the direction of a licensed physician. As the Assistant Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer will also provide support to the Athletic Director in promoting the Mission of the school, aligned with the IHM charism through effective leadership and administration of the Academy’s interscholastic athletic programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain Athletic Training Certification and Licensure.
  • Ensure that all student athletes have a current pre-participation physical.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for student athletes.
  • Day to day operations of the Athletic training room.
  • Provide medical coverage for games and practices and travel as needed for playoff games.
  • Provide each sport with a medical kit, water and ice.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation and strength and conditioning programs in cooperation with a physician.
  • During the fall and spring athletic season, the cart should be in the vicinity of the Athletic Trainer in case of emergency.
  • Provide rehabilitation and therapy programs in cooperation with a physician.
  • Guide student athletes and parents with utilizing the concussion protocol developed by the school.
  • Design and implement strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs for athletes.
  • Instruct proper technique for weightlifting, plyometrics, and movement drills.
  • Assist in proper equipment and uniform ordering, team spirit wear store, and sport equipment liaison for each season.
  • Act as game manager when needed at athletic events, if necessary.
  • These duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs. The athletic trainer’s duties, enumerated in this document, should not be considered all inclusive. The Athletic Director or Head Athletic Trainer shall modify duties as necessary. The athletic trainer will be present at home athletic contests and practices and shall attend other post-season and home-hosted contests as directed by the Athletic Director and the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • This is an 11-month full-time position. During the school year, this position may require working longer than regular school business hours. Due to the nature of athletic programs, the Assistant Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director may need to be available when and if issues arise. Therefore, this position will allow for a flexible work schedule during the school year in cooperation with the Head Athletic Trainer and with the approval of the Athletic Director.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Athletic Training Certification and Licensure

Strength and Conditioning Certification (preferred)

Knowledge of Microsoft office, google suite, Magnus Health, PIAA Rules and Policies

Prior successful work in athletic training and athletic administration is preferred

Must have all required Pennsylvania clearances
