Job summary

Lovington Municipal Schools seeks an Assistant Coach to establish and maintain an athletic program in the sport(s) in which assigned. The role emphasizes developing player skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, while encouraging self-esteem.

Qualifications include a bachelor's degree preferred, eligibility for the New Mexico coaching license, teaching experience preferred, knowledge of NMAA rules, and a valid driver's license. Duties may be assigned by the athletic director/coordinator.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Possess or qualify for New Mexico coaching license.
• Teacher experience preferred.
• Knowledge of the rules/regulations for the activity and for the NM Association.

Responsibilities

• Help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for disciplines, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the activity involved.
• Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.
• Monitor the response to all rules and regulations in all activities to which there are assigned responsibilities.
• Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate to head coach or athletic director/coordinator.
• Maintain attendance forms, insurance records, physical records, code of ethics, parent permission forms, and similar paperwork.
• Oversee the safety condition of the facility or area where sport/activity is conducted.
• Establish eligibility criteria for interscholastic competition in sport/activity.
• Enforce discipline and sportsmanship and oversee penalties for breach by students.
• Attend to academic classroom work as assigned, using acceptable teaching methods.
• Provide lists of athletes and lettermen and inventory of equipment.
• Provide safe keeping for valuables during practice and game time.
• Ensure athletes are informed of eligibility rules.
• Limit time athletes will be out of school to a minimum.
• Ensure athletes do not participate in more than the maximum allowed games.
• Know the NMMA rules.
• Conduct oneself professionally and set expectations for assistants.
• Accept duties assigned by athletic director/principal/head coach.
• Ensure athletes are well supervised.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor/principal/superintendent.
