Job Description:

The School of Nursing and Allied Health is seeking a full-time nursing faculty member who will also serve as the Program Director (PD) of the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN). This faculty position will include teaching responsibilities in nursing while assuming leadership as the Program Director of the proposed LPN program. The faculty member will assist with the LPN program's approval and implementation processes. The PD will oversee the administration, planning, and evaluation of the LPN curriculum, ensuring it meets accreditation standards and effectively prepares students for entry into the nursing profession. This role is designed to provide strategic leadership in program development, ensuring the curriculum remains current, evidence-based, and aligned with both state and national NCLEX-PN licensing requirements. The primary goal of this position is to establish a rigorous and supportive learning environment that produces competent and compassionate LPNs ready to meet diverse healthcare needs in various clinical settings. Additionally, the Program Director will mentor faculty and students, fostering professional growth and contributing to the development of a strong healthcare workforce pipeline. This is an exciting opportunity for a nursing educator with a passion for leadership, curriculum development, and student success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and advising undergraduate students.
  • Providing academic leadership and oversight for the LPN program.
  • Supervising and mentoring nursing faculty and staff associated with the LPN program.
  • Leading recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and professional development of LPN program faculty.
  • Collaborating with the dean, department chair, and faculty to ensure academic quality and regulatory compliance within the LPN curriculum.
  • Leading continuous program assessment and improvement, including preparation for and maintenance of accreditation.
  • Developing and sustaining partnerships with healthcare organizations, school districts, and community colleges to support the growth and relevance of the LPN program.
  • Overseeing administrative functions related to the LPN program, including course development and improvement, scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.

Direct Reports:

Employees reporting to the Program Director of an LPN program include:

  • Lecture Faculty: Responsible for delivering classroom-based theoretical instruction in nursing topics and foundational healthcare concepts.
  • Clinical Faculty: Oversee and guide students in clinical settings, providing hands-on training and evaluating students' practical skills and competencies.
  • Clinical Coordinators: Manage clinical site placements, coordinate schedules with healthcare facilities, and ensure clinical experiences meet program standards.
  • Program Support Staff: Assist with administrative tasks, student records management, scheduling, and day-to-day program operations.
  • Lab/Skills Instructors: Facilitate practical lab sessions, teach hands-on nursing skills, and ensure students are prepared for clinical practice.
  • Student Success or Advisement Coordinators: Provide academic support and guidance to students, monitor their progress, and assist with interventions if needed.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. university in Nursing.
  • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the relevant state.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a healthcare setting, preferably with experience in nursing education.
  • College or university level teaching experience.
  • Experience with supporting diverse populations.
  • Ability to work in a distributed faculty environment.
  • Demonstrated teaching and mentoring skills, with a strong commitment to supporting student development and success.
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing practices, educational methodologies, and current healthcare industry standards.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with an ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and external partners. A commitment to promoting a positive learning environment and advancing nursing education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate in Nursing (DNP or PhD) or in Education (EdD) with a focus on nursing education or health sciences.
  • Prior experience teaching in an LPN program or similar nursing program, with a demonstrated record of curriculum development and assessment.
  • Experience with teaching in online learning environments.
  • Certification in nursing education (e.g., Certified Nurse Educator - CNE) or a related specialty that enhances instructional and program leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) and student management software to support course delivery and student progress tracking.
  • Experience with accreditation processes.
  • Established professional relationships within the healthcare and nursing education communities to support clinical partnerships and student placements.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.

Special Information:

  • Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university-wide commitments.
  • Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs.
  • Some evening and/or weekend engagement with students is required.
  • This position requires occasional visits to the healthcare facility to assess the student clinical learning environment.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.

Additional Information:

Rank/Salary:Tenure-track, assistant/associate professor, minimum starting salary of $80,000, appointment and salary to commensurate with experience and qualifications.
