Overview

Assistant/Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology (Savannah) – Augusta University

Location: Augusta University; Campus/site: Savannah. Full Time; Regular/Temporary: Regular. This position is a non-tenure track faculty role in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing criminal forensic evaluations under the supervision of the hospital forensic director and may participate in recovery planning and group treatment, develop individualized treatment plans, document progress, provide reports and expert testimony, supervise behavioral health counselors, and perform related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct court-ordered pretrial and competency evaluations as a forensic psychology evaluator to address questions of competency to stand trial and/or criminal responsibility as a neutral party to the court.
  • Complete assessments of individuals admitted to Savannah Regional Hospital, Forensic Psychiatric Unit.
  • Conduct forensic risk assessments and other psychological testing.
  • Conduct groups and psycho-educational interventions.
  • License may be temporary, provisional, or permanent. "License eligible" if able to obtain within a reasonable time (e.g., relocation from another state).
  • Work with students on forensic evaluations.
  • Complete all annual training for both Augusta University (AU) and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).
  • Attend virtual department meetings for the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior through AU.
Required Qualifications

PhD or PsyD or equivalent with forensics experience/training. Knowledge of abnormal psychology, relevant statutes and case law related to forensic psychology, malingering assessments, intellectual testing, personality assessment, responsibility and risk assessments, best practices in mental health treatment, and ethical/professional guidelines. Completion of the state's Competency to Stand Trial Certification process within one year of hire is required for continued employment. For rank specifics:

Assistant Professor – Early career level faculty with appropriate postgraduate training.

Associate Professor – Mid-level career faculty with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable experience.

Faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions include: evidence of teaching ability, scholarly activity, ability in other duties, and consideration of internal equity and market data; some positions may waive experience for those meeting other requirements. Desirable personal qualities are assessed during the interview and through supporting materials.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment is 1.0 FTE (full-time).

Assistant Professor – Salary commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; subject to funding availability.

Associate Professor – Salary commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; subject to funding availability.
