Description

The College of Education at the University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership position in the Department of Transformative Leadership, Counseling, and Innovation, with an anticipated start date of August 2027. We seek a scholar with significant PreK-12 district or central office leadership experience who is committed to preparing the next generation of educational leaders. The successful candidate will contribute to the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and M.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration programs through teaching, research, dissertation supervision, and service. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, staff, students, school and district partners, and other community stakeholders.

The Department of Transformative Leadership, Counseling, and Innovation is a thriving academic unit within the College of Education. The department offers graduate programs in Educational Leadership, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Instructional Design and Technology, and School Library Science. Department faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service while preparing scholar-practitioners to address complex challenges in educational and organizational settings. The department fosters a collaborative environment that values innovation, leadership development, professional practice, and meaningful educational impact.

Duties
  • Maintaining an active and productive research agenda that contributes to the field of educational leadership
  • Teaching graduate courses in Educational Leadership and related areas
  • Supporting doctoral and master's students through advising, mentoring, and dissertation supervision
  • Participating in service activities that support the department, college, university, profession, and broader educational community
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, school districts, and educational organizations to strengthen academic programs and partnerships
  • Contributing to program development, accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts within Educational Leadership
Qualifications
Required
  • Earned doctorate in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of strong scholarly record in educational leadership.
  • Significant K-12 central office and/or district-level leadership experience.
  • Strong expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research.
  • Ability to connect research and scholarship to authentic problems of practice facing educational leaders, schools, and districts.
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate level or strong potential for excellence in graduate instruction.
Preferred
  • Experience in both K-12 district leadership PLUS higher education leadership roles.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting doctoral students through the dissertation process.
  • Record of successful grant activity, funded research, or other externally supported projects.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring Ed.D. and/or Ph.D. students.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with school districts, educational organizations, and community stakeholders.
