The University of Arizona in Tucson seeks an open-rank Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Practice in Educational Leadership & Policy (CT). The role emphasizes equity, anti-racism, and social justice in leadership and policy discussions, with both online and in-person teaching responsibilities.

The candidate will teach, mentor, and advise graduate students, develop courses grounded in current theory and practice, and foster asset-based, inclusive leadership.

The Educational Leadership and Policy Unit in the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Practice is pleased to announce an opportunity to join our faculty. We are seeking candidates for an open-rank position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Practice (Career-Track) level, depending on qualifications and experience.

We seek a collaborative colleague with leadership experience in PK-12 schools and/or districts who is ready to teach, mentor, and advise graduate students in online and in-person spaces.

The candidate will join a highly varied and synergistic intellectual unit with an intentional focus on equity, anti-racism, social justice, and inclusion as these relate to education leadership and policy.

Search Committee and Start Date

The Search Committee will begin reviewing applications on TBD and the position will begin in August 2027.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Experience as an educational leader in PK-12 settings.
• Demonstrate experience and capacity to engage in leadership practice that is responsive to varied educational contexts and grounded in social justice theory and research.
• Responsibilities include designing and teaching graduate-level courses, both in-person and online, synchronously and asynchronously, focused on educational leadership based on current theory and practice.
• The candidate must be prepared to engage in teaching, mentoring, and advising graduate students using asset-based approaches that affirm the:
  • strengths and lived experiences of varied communities and
  • the value of professional knowledge, while centering transformational change and leadership
• Relatedly, the candidate must demonstrate a willingness to advise master’s and doctoral students through programs of study, as well as through the design, development, and execution of capstone and dissertation research.
• Occasionally, this individual will represent the University at meetings and in partnerships with local and statewide districts, as well as with state and national organizations, to present relevant students, program, and department information and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education.
• Experience teaching courses in person and online, synchronous and asynchronously.
• Proven accomplishment in designing pedagogy and curriculum to meet the needs of adult learners.
• Evidence of engaging in transformative leadership practice grounded in scholarship and varied PK-12 contexts.
• Demonstrated capacity for implementing asset-based approaches through supervision, advising, mentoring, coaching, or other professional growth opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to represent the University and build collaborative relationships/partnerships with local and state-wide districts, and state and national organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Principal experience in PK-12 schools.
• Possess a valid Arizona state administration certification or open to seeking a certification in Arizona.
• Expertise and experience in cross-disciplinary educational concepts.
• Experience teaching master’s and doctoral courses, in synchronous/asynchronous, online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face formats.
• Experience with academic writing and/or supporting students in developing academic writing skills.
• Experience chairing and/or serving on dissertation committees.
• Capacity to support in-person instruction, student mentoring, and partnerships with local school districts and/or state, national organizations; candidates located in or willing to establish residence in Tucson or the broader Arizona region are preferred.
