Job Description

The Department of Chemistry at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for an open-rank faculty position in Analytical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally recognized and well-funded research program in any area of chemistry, with emphasis on measurement or instrumental science, broadly defined. Candidates with research expertise that can contribute to forensic chemistry are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an innovative and independent research program, demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to service activities that advance the Department and the broader scientific community.

The candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative research environment with opportunities to build interdisciplinary partnerships within the Department of Chemistry and across Louisiana State University. Participation in collaborative research initiatives, including large-scale grant proposals and industrial partnerships, is encouraged. The candidate will contribute to a collegial, supportive, and welcoming academic environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry based on departmental needs, such as courses in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, forensic chemistry, and more advanced topics, and participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities. (50%)
  • Establish and maintain a nationally recognized research program; secure external funding to support research activities; disseminate research findings through publications, presentations, and other appropriate venues; and mentor graduate and undergraduate research students. (50%)

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Demonstrated research expertise in measurement or instrumental science, broadly defined.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.
  • Research expertise that can contribute to forensic chemistry in areas including but not limited to trace analysis, development of field-ready tools, chemometrics, automated data interpretation, and development of new analytical methods and sensors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, leverage institutional strengths, and contribute to research priorities aligned with the LSU Strategic Plan and Scholarship First Agenda.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Demonstrated research expertise in measurement or instrumental science, broadly defined.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience at the rank of Assistant Professor
  • Current external research funding
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.
  • Research expertise that can contribute to forensic chemistry in areas including but not limited to trace analysis, development of field-ready tools, chemometrics, automated data interpretation, and development of new analytical methods and sensors.
