Department of Comparative Pathobiology and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory

Job Summary

Position: The Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) and the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine are seeking a full-time (12-month) Veterinary Molecular Diagnostician. This position will be based in West Lafayette, IN, at the Willie M. Reed Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.

  • Clinical/Tenure Track; Assistant/Associate/Full Professor
  • Academic rank and compensation will be commensurate with academic record and experience.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • DVM (or equivalent) or Ph.D. (or equivalent) in microbiology (or a related field) conferred at the time of appointment.
  • Experience in a molecular diagnostic laboratory.
  • Record of communication of test results and interpretations to clinicians.
  • Record of supervision of laboratory staff.
Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic Service – Serve as the subject matter expert and head of the ADDL’s Molecular Diagnostic laboratory, overseeing daily diagnostic testing, new test development, process improvement, and the technical staff. Communicate with other ADDL diagnosticians and regulatory officials. Consult with clients, including clinical veterinarians, producers, and owners.
  • Teaching – Participate in teaching DVM and Veterinary Nursing students and training residents/graduate students.
  • Researc h –Maintain a program of scholarly activities. Clinical track applicants are expected to participate in collaborative research efforts. Tenure track applicants will be expected to develop and sustain a funded research program in their area of interest.
  • Provide continuing education/outreach to ADDL constituencies, present at local, regional, and/or national meetings, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to shared committee work and other assignments, as needed, at the ADDL, CPB department, college, and/or university level.
