Job summary

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. is seeking an Assignments Editor to lead information gathering and story assignments in a fast-paced news environment.

The role tracks stories from multiple sources, dispatches field staff, coordinates logistics, and participates in daily development discussions. Strong deadlines and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communication.
• Minimum two years’ experience in news operations.
• Proficiency with basic office equipment and computer tools.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
• Willingness to work any shift.

Responsibilities

• The frontline of information gathering and story assignments.
• Tracks stories from all sources including government agencies, social media, wire services and community groups
• Dispatches photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories
• Coordinates logistics for news personnel

• Edits video clips as assigned
• Potential for writing stories for the web and other eMedia platforms
• Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites and by phone in a professional/customer service-based manner
• Performs other duties as assigned by management

Performs other duties as assigned by management

Requirements & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience

Fluency in English

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Minimum two years’ experience in news operations

Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment

Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Flexibility to work any shift

Compensation - $25/hr+ commensurate with skills and experience
