Job summary

KOAT, the ABC & CBS affiliates in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has an opening for an Assignment Editor who can win each day by shaping news coverage and taking charge of breaking stories. You will oversee enterprise reporting and interact with the Assistant News Director to guide coverage.

You will listen to police scanners, gather and organize press releases, tips and calls, and coordinate with producers, digital editors and reporters.

Qualifications

• Experience listening to police scanners.
• Experience with digital platforms, especially social media.
• Working knowledge of FTP or willingness to learn FTP video transfer.
• Familiar with local newsgathering technology and terminology.
• Maintain professional relationships with newsmakers.
• Ability to gather information from multiple sources quickly.
• Remain calm during breaking news situations.
• Willing to work weekends and nights.
• Related military experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Listen to police scanners and decide on compelling content for newscasts.
• Gather and organize press releases, emails, tips and calls.
• Assist news management with content gathering and planning.
• Assist producers, digital editors and reporters with story gathering.
• Keep track of crews in the field and communicate with them.
• Furnish content and post it to all digital platforms.
