About the Position:

The analyst will be responsible for accomplishing results through direct day-to-day activities for the asset team. The objective of this role is to maximize risk adjusted revenue for the BESS based on making the optimal bidding decisions in day-ahead and real-time markets. This role will also have or need to gain a deep understanding of CAISO and ERCOT market design, regulatory rules/changes, and generator bidding behavior. Prior experience dispatching assets or trading in at least one U.S. ISO is required. BESS experience is not required but curiosity is.

The responsibilities of the asset manager are summarized below:

• Scheduling, managing, and maximizing the value of the assets in the wholesale power markets.
• Overriding algo recommendations as deemed necessary by this person (i.e. making trading decisions for the asset at times)..
• Monitoring and analyzing the key financial performance indicators of the project and suggesting improvements to the data science team when appropriate
• Maintain thorough awareness of regulatory, technical, commercial, and financial issues related to assigned assets and be responsible for clients’ satisfaction.
• Provide support to project staff if needed to resolve appropriate project, regulatory, contractual, or commercial issues.
• Participate in project & customer meetings, conferences, and discussions to assure active involvement in the projects’ affairs.
• Perform any number of ad hoc tasks around (but limited to): budgeting, accounting, tax, automation, registration, research, reporting, consulting, etc. They will have to learn these skills on their own with little guidance so must be a self-starter who is very meticulous and thorough.

Requirements:

• Understanding of electricity markets, financial models, tariff structures, renewable incentives, energy storage, and renewable energy.
• Prior experience in modeling buying and selling of energy commodities (power, gas, and environmental products)
• Strong analytical capability; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and programming skills like Python and large-data processing is a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A passion for energy industry and willingness to learn and adapt in this rapidly growing industry
• Undergrad degree in mathematics, operations research, or computer science (flexible for right person)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in an ISO (trading, asset management, analyst)
• Willingness to occasionally answer phone calls and perform tasks at night / on weekends when things go awry
