Job summary

Nightpeak Energy is seeking an Asset Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of our power plants. You will coordinate commercial and technical tasks to maintain compliance, high availability, and optimized performance of the operating fleet.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of power plant operations experience in traditional or renewable generation.
  • Strong knowledge of asset-related contracts, compliance, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to bridge technical and commercial concepts and work with external partners.
  • Proficient in Excel; experience with Tableau/Smartsheet is a plus.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Experience with project budgeting and financial planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain expertise on asset contracts and rights.
  • Coordinate operational compliance with contracts and regulations.
  • Support P&L development for conventional and renewable assets.
  • Manage third-party asset management and O&M contractors.
  • Coordinate with O&M teams on ops, maintenance, capex, safety, and emissions.
  • Handle monthly reporting integrating contractor deliverables and finance.
  • Assist with unplanned maintenance and supplier outreach.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and project agreement adherence.
  • Engage with regulators, local governments, and NGOs to build relationships.
  • Support audits, documentation, and approvals with accounting and finance.
  • Develop annual project budgets and explain variances.

Job Description

Nightpeak is seeking an Asset Manager to oversee day‑to‑day operations of our power plants. This position reports to our Director of Asset Management and involves being able to manage various commercial and technical tasks to ensure Nightpeak’s operating fleet maintains compliance and high availability. This role will also play a part in Nightpeak’s business development efforts to create benchmarks, create comparisons, and review assumptions for new power plants under development or to be acquired. The ideal candidate has a generalist background and is able to integrate technical and commercial knowledge to help manage various internal and external experts and counterparties.

The role, like all at Nightpeak, requires an entrepreneurial mindset and high achieving attitude to grow the capability and effectiveness of our team to create and operate great power plants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of asset‑related contracts, ensuring effective oversight and optimization of contractual rights, obligations, and commercial outcomes.
  • Coordinate tasks related to operational compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Support with PNL development and review of conventional or renewable generation assets in a commercial operation.
  • Manage third‑party asset management and O&M contractors that Nightpeak leverages to manage the full suite of asset management and operations tasks.
  • Coordinate with O&M personnel to understand the operation, maintenance and planned capital expenditures for each facility, and identify ways to improve safety, OpEx, availability, efficiency, and emissions.
  • Manage monthly reporting requirements for all plants – integrating contractor deliverables and internal financial planning and accounting and commercial contexts.
  • Assist with unplanned maintenance and capital improvement by acting as a force multiplier to our third‑party contractors to proactively reach out to new contractors, plan for internal process and approvals, and project manage timely scope completion.
  • Assist third‑party compliance with the regulatory requirements and project agreements, including operating agreements, air permits, credit agreements, operations and maintenance agreements, and power purchase agreements.
  • Engage with key external project stakeholders, regulators, local governments, and non‑governmental organizations to develop, preserve, and enhance relationships with local community.
  • Assist O&M contractors with understanding of key commercial conditions and ensure Nightpeak’s legal and economic interests are persevered.
  • Partner with accounting and finance to support budget vs actual analysis, invoice and accrual review, vendor management, project tracking model updates, coordination with external stakeholders, and provide documentation as needed for audits, compliance, and internal approvals.
  • Develop annual budgets for each project, foresee and plan for risks, and ensure monthly and annual budget variances are explainable.
Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of power plant operations experience, with experience in both traditional and renewable generation technologies a major plus
  • Knowledge of power plant systems, technology, operations, safety, and compliance
  • A keen ability to bridge technical engineering and commercial concepts
  • Ability to navigate financial models, accounting schedules, etc.High comfort working in excel
  • Proven ability to collaborate with owners, operation managers, and senior level management
  • Professional demeanor that builds trust with power plant stakeholders
  • Experience working cross functionally – seeking input when needed and comfortable communicating across multiple functional groups
  • Collaborative and open‑minded, knows when to seek input
  • Familiarity with debt and tax equity structures or interest in learning a plus
  • Highly organized to track numerous obligations
  • Experience creating or using organizational tools related to project or operations management
  • Proactive and able to dive into research, analyze findings, and arrive at the right answer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word
  • Experience creating and periodically managing operational KPI dashboards in Tableau, Smartsheet, or other similar tools.
