IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates selected for the City Planner position from this posting will be appointed on a provisional basis. As a provisional employee, you will be required to pass the civil service examination and be assigned a list number by the NYC Dept. of Citywide Administrative Services to be considered for permanent employment. Failure to take/pass the exam or be reached on the list will result in termination of provisional status.
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) manages water supply, wastewater, and pollution control for New York City, employing nearly 6,000 staff. The DEP’s water system includes 19 reservoirs and 3 lakes across a 2,000 sq mile watershed.
The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) oversees sewage treatment facilities, laboratories, and harbor vessels across the city. The position is within the Asset Management Planning Section, which develops and manages asset management programs to optimize operations, reduce costs, and maintain infrastructure integrity.
The Asset Management Planner will evaluate existing practices against ISO 55000 standards, develop roadmaps for program maturity, and support digital transformation initiatives including data model design and system integration.
Under administrative direction, the candidate will:
Level III: One additional year of experience; Level IV: Two additional years.
NYC residency required within 90 days or within certain counties after two years of service.
