Job summary

Fervo Energy invites a driven graduate student to join our Houston team as an Asset Management Intern. You’ll work on a self-directed project from day one, develop financial models, and gain exposure to power trading, commercial strategy, and plant operations in the CAISO market.

Responsibilities

• Research and recommend strategies for bidding power into the CAISO market and build models translating inputs into production.
• Analyze test data and build KPIs/dashboards to track plant expenses, revenues, and overall performance.
• Coordinate with external trading partner on daily operational parameters and schedules.
• Summarize customer PPA terms and support ad hoc projects like Capacity Market or REC readiness.

Internship Overview

You won't be running coffee orders or shuffling paperwork this summer. At Fervo, interns are handed something real: a project of your own, scoped with your manager on day one and yours to drive for the full 12 weeks. You'll work side-by-side with the teams building the next generation of geothermal energy, tackling problems that genuinely move the business forward. At the end of the summer, you'll present your work to our executive leadership team, department leads, and fellow interns, sharing real results with a real audience. This is a real seat at the table — and a real shot at what comes next.

Position Description

Fervo Energy is developing next-generation geothermal power to deliver firm, carbon-free energy at scale. Our flagship Cape Station development in Milford, Utah is one of the largest next-generation geothermal developments in the world, and our Houston headquarters houses the engineering, commercial, and corporate teams driving Fervo's growth.

As an Asset Management Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience in commercial asset management, sitting at the intersection of power trading, customer engagement, commercial strategy, and plant operations. You'll develop financial models and market strategies to optimize the value of our geothermal power assets in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) market, gaining unique insight into what it takes to bring a late-stage geothermal development into commercial operations, with plenty of opportunity for cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and company leaders.

Required Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to stakeholders and leadership
• Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and adapt quickly to new challenges

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong financial and data modeling skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); advanced Excel or data modeling preferred
• Interest in energy finance, power markets/trading, and clean tech/innovation
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
