Job summary

Michiana Behavioral Health in Plymouth, Indiana, is seeking an Assessment & Referral Counselor for the night shift (PRN) to assist clients in crisis by assessing needs and facilitating referrals for the lowest appropriate level of care, in collaboration with the treatment team.

Responsibilities include crisis intervention, EMTALA compliance, discussing insurance questions with clients and families, triage, and coordinating admissions paperwork with Medical Staff and Managed Care Organizations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work or related field; or Indiana RN license.
• Minimum of two years direct clinical experience in a psychiatric/mental health setting.
• Good listening and communication skills.
• Good organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Assess clients in psychiatric/mental health crisis and refer to appropriate care.
• Handling incoming inquiry calls and walk-ins; crisis intervention.
• Follow EMTALA regulations and stabilize emergent medical conditions as needed.
• Discuss financial concerns or insurance questions with clients, families, and referral sources.
• Triage as needed and facilitate discussions about feelings.
• Complete assessments and provide referrals when necessary.
• Conduct insurance pre-certifications for inpatient admission and document admissions.
• Coordinate with Medical Staff, Treatment Team, and Managed Care Organizations.

Assessment & Referral Counselor - PRN

Night Shift

The Assessment & Referral Counselor assists clients who are in psychiatric/mental health crisis by assessing the current situation and making appropriate referrals for the lowest level of care consistent with what the client's needs are. Referrals or treatment recommendations are made through the collaborative efforts of team members and in accordance with facility approved level of care criteria.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Incoming inquiry calls and walk-ins
• Crisis Intervention
• Follow any applicable EMTALA regulations and utilize emergency techniques as needed to stabilize emergent medical conditions
• Provide clients, families/concerned persons, and referral sources an opportunity to discuss financial concerns or insurance questions
• Triage as needed
• Facilitate open discussion with clients, families, and referral sources about their feelings
• Completes assessments and provides referrals if necessary
• Conduct insurance pre-certifications for inpatient admission to the facility, properly document admissions, and distribute all assessment/admission paperwork appropriately
• Interface closely with Medical Staff, Treatment Team, and Managed Care Organizations

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Master's degree in Social Work or related field; or be a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Indiana
• Minimum of two (2) years of direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting, with direct experience in patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations
