Assembly Technician II

Department: Manufacturing / Production

Reports To: Production Supervisor / Manufacturing Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Level: Tier 2 – Experienced

Position Summary

The Assembly Technician II is an experienced manufacturing professional responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, inspecting, and troubleshooting electrical and electro-mechanical products in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role requires the ability to work with minimal supervision while interpreting complex schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.

The Assembly Technician II supports the production of electrical panels, switchgear, bus duct systems, and other engineered products by utilizing advanced assembly techniques, specialized tools, and diagnostic equipment to ensure high-quality output and on-time delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Electrical & Mechanical Assembly
  • Interpret and work from complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
  • Assemble electrical panels, switchgear, bus duct systems, and electro‑mechanical equipment according to engineering specifications.
  • Install and connect electrical wiring, control components, circuit protection devices, bus bars, relays, transformers, and related assemblies.
  • Assemble mechanical components including frames, enclosures, brackets, mounting hardware, and support structures.
  • Perform torquing, fastening, alignment, fitting, and mechanical adjustments to meet design specifications.
Testing & Troubleshooting
  • Conduct functional testing, continuity checks, insulation resistance testing, and other diagnostic procedures using electrical test equipment.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve assembly issues, wiring discrepancies, and mechanical fitment concerns.
  • Verify proper operation of assembled systems prior to final inspection.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities when quality or production issues arise.
Quality Assurance & Inspection
  • Perform in‑process and final quality inspections to ensure products meet engineering, customer, and regulatory specifications.
  • Inspect components, wiring, assemblies, and finished products for workmanship, accuracy, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Document inspection results, test data, non‑conformance issues, and corrective actions as required.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality systems and manufacturing standards.
Process Improvement & Team Support
  • Work independently with limited supervision while maintaining productivity and quality expectations.
  • Assist in training and mentoring entry‑level assembly technicians.
  • Provide feedback on assembly processes, tooling improvements, and workflow optimization opportunities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve technical issues.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and housekeeping standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, electrical safety, and manufacturing regulations.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or vocational certification preferred.

  • Experience with switchgear, bus duct, electrical panels, or power distribution equipment.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL, or other electrical industry standards.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
  • Leadership or mentoring experience in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and industrial materials.
