Job summary

Primus Aerospace is seeking an Assembly Technician to set up and operate equipment, perform grinding, polishing, and finishing tasks on aerospace parts. The role involves reading blueprints, selecting tools, and maintaining clean, organized workstations in a 1st shift environment.

The position is an entry-level manufacturing role ideal for starting a career in aerospace, with a Monday–Friday 7:00am–3:30pm schedule and a pay rate of $24–$28 per hour. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Soldering experience and readiness to obtain IPC-610/J-STD-001 certification if not on file.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and diagrams precisely.
  • Comfort with using hand and power tools in a manufacturing setting.
  • Willingness to obtain security clearance or hold clearance.
  • Good manual dexterity and steady hands for small components.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret and follow blueprints, diagrams, and specifications to assemble equipment.
  • Grind, sand, clean, or polish parts to remove defects and prepare surfaces.
  • Maintain inventory at work stations.
  • Rework and repair assembled equipment per engineering changes.
  • Follow safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Inspect finished workpieces against templates and measurements.
  • Move controls to operate grinding and polishing equipment.
  • Transfer parts to designated work areas.
  • Trim, deburr, and finish parts per templates.
  • Tumble parts per customer requirements.
  • Repair and maintain equipment and tools.
  • File surfaces to conform to templates and specifications.
  • Mark defects for repair.
  • Study layouts to determine part placement.
  • Sharpen abrasive tools and select appropriate abrasives.
  • Load and position workpieces on equipment.
  • Record production data on forms.
  • Apply solutions and chemicals as required.
  • Ensure a consistent 100%-quality process.
  • Check that all operations are completed correctly.
  • Maintain clean downdraft tables and organized work area.
  • Operate manual mill and/or lathe.

Job description

Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense & space OEMs / Primes & Tier I suppliers. The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts; machined out of standard and exotic metals. Primus works directly with all major aerospace manufacturers (e.g., Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop) to provide components to mission critical civilian and defense programs.

Job Purpose: The Assembly Technician is responsible for set up, operation, assembling or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal per customer requirements. Duties and tasks are varied but standardized. The technician will work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where the ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required. This is an entry level position that is ideal for someone wanting to start a career in manufacturing and aerospace.

Hours: Monday - Friday: 7:00am - 3:30pm

Pay Rate: $24 - $28/hour

Technician Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble equipment and products
  • Grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools
  • Maintain inventory of product in work stations
  • Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
  • Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting them, comparing them to templates, measuring their dimensions, or testing them in working machinery
  • Move controls to adjust, start, or stop equipment during grinding and polishing processes
  • Remove completed workpieces from equipment or work tables, using hand tools, and place workpieces in containers
  • Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met
  • Transfer equipment, objects, or parts to specified work areas, using moving devices.
  • Trim, scrape, or deburr objects or parts, using chisels, scrapers, and other hand tools and equipment
  • Tumble parts as needed per customer requirements
  • Repair and maintain equipment, objects, or parts, using hand tools
  • File grooved, contoured, and irregular surfaces of metal objects, such as metalworking dies and machine parts, to conform to templates, other parts, layouts, or blueprint specifications
  • Mark defects, such as knotholes, cracks, and splits, for repair
  • Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out workpieces or saw out templates
  • Sharpen abrasive grinding tools, using machines and hand tools
  • Load and adjust workpieces onto equipment or work tables, using hand tools
  • Record product and processing data on specified forms
  • Select files or other abrasives, according to materials, sizes and shapes of workpieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes
  • Apply solutions and chemicals to equipment, objects, or parts, using hand tools
  • Ensure a consistent process is followed that maintains 100%-part quality
  • Check parts to ensure all operations have been completed properly
  • Clean downdraft tables and floors daily. Maintain an organized work station
  • Operate manual mill and/or lathe
Job Requirements
  • Soldering experience; Certification of IPC-610(preferred) and J-STD-001, or willing to obtain upon hire
  • Hand Soldering skills (through hole and surface mount components)
  • Eligible or already have security clearance (highly desirable)
  • The ability to quickly move your hand, your hands together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Ability to use hand tools including deburring blades, scraper handles, Dremel’s, rotary brushes, sanders and grinders.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of both hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble very small objects.
  • Quick response (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Good hand dexterity and coordination is necessary as products and components are typically very small.
  • The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while standing.
  • The ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • Follow all safety requirements and policies.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time on concrete floors.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble very small objects.
  • The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
  • The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
