Job summary

Wabtec Corporation in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Radiator Shop Supervisor to lead the remanufacturing area, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery while coordinating with production and maintenance teams.

You will direct front-line staff, manage schedules, enforce standards, apply lean practices, and drive continuous improvement through problem solving and KPI monitoring across OEE, TAKT time, and related metrics.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of proven experience in requalification manufacturing, assembly lines or remanufacturing within heavy industry or rail sectors.
  • Mechanical or engineering associate degree or certificates; experience can substitute education.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with radiator repair techniques including brazing, soldering, assembly/disassembly, pressure testing and leak repair.
  • Experience in manufacturing management and Front-Line Leadership: Safety, Quality, Delivery, forecasting, scheduling, ERP reporting and basic project management.
  • Experience interpreting KPIs such as Incident Rate, COPQ, OEE, TAKT Time, and Hour by Hour.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
  • Skilled with hand and power tools, torque wrenches, pressure testing equipment, hydraulic presses and flushing stations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production software.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure people adhere to Safety, Quality and Production standards.
  • Promote safety first by enforcing safety protocols and conducting safety audits with corrective actions when risks are identified.
  • Coach and supervise front-line shop personnel to support team development and performance.
  • Lead radiator remanufacturing production line operations including disassembly, cleaning, reassembly and testing processes.
  • Monitor and enforce high performance; apply disciplinary actions to ensure work rules are followed.
  • Lead problem solving activities through root cause analysis and associated tools (PDCA, DMAIC, 8D/5-Why).
  • Coordinate with maintenance, lean, quality, engineering, workers, other lines and management to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrate professional communication and strong leadership presence on the shop floor.

Job Description

As the radiator shop, you will work closely with production team members to lead and support the tasks on the floor, while coordinating with the plant and operations manager on labor planning and production goals. This position also partners with quality, maintenance, safety, materials and continuous improvement team to align goals and ensure smooth goal completion.

How will you make a difference?

The radiator shop supervisor oversees the daily operations of the remanufacturing area, ensuring safety, quality, and delivery objectives are met. This leadership role supports production by directing front-line employees, managing schedules, enforcing work standards, and working towards continuous improvement. This supervisor is responsible for meeting technical compliance with engineering requirements while promoting accountability and excellence in the radiator shop.

What do we want to know about you?
  • Preferred: +5 years of proven experience in requalification manufacturing, assembly lines or remanufacturing within heavy industry or rail sectors.
  • Mechanical or engineering associate degree, certificates and related education. Experience is equivalent to education requirements.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with radiator repair techniques including brazing, soldering, assembly / disassembly, pressure testing and leak repair.
  • Experience in manufacturing management and Front-Line Leadership:Safety, Quality, Delivery, forecasting, scheduling, equipment utilization, capacity analysis, labor requirements, overtime, past due, ERP reports and reporting, basic project management, disciplinary process, and adherence to work rules.
  • Strong experience working with KPIs and ability to interpret indicators and how they are impacted by daily activities such as: Incident Rate, COPQ, TOP, OEE, Takt Time achievement, Hour by Hour, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical and assembly schematics, BOMS and specifications.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools torque, wrenches pneumatic tools, pressure testing equipment, hydraulic presses and flushing stations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office tools and ability to learn production software.
What will your typical day look like?
  • Ensure people adhere to Safety, Quality and Production standards.
  • Promote safety first by enforcing safety protocols, conducting workplace safety audits, and ensuring corrective action when risks are identified.
  • Handle various administrative tasks for production and leadership assignments.
  • Meet quality, safety, and production metrics stablish by the plant and operations manager.
  • Supervise radiator remanufacturing production line including disassembling, cleaning, reassembly and testing processes.
  • Monitor and enforce high performance, follow disciplinary procedures to ensure work rules are followed.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to shop personnel to support team development and performance.
  • Lead by example with a strong leadership presence on the shop floor, demonstrating professionalism, accountability and integrity.
  • Apply mechanical knowledge to oversee repairs during the radiators overhaul process.
  • Ensure correct use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment such as pneumatic tools, toque wrenches, pressure testers, hydraulic presses and flushing systems.
  • Oversee the correct use and operate of overhead cranes, hoists, and forklift for safe handling of heavy radiator components and assemblies.
  • Troubleshoot production issues related to Safety, Quality or Product Flow.
  • Review and understand engineering mechanical drawings, part/component drawings, assembly drawings, dimensions and tolerances.
  • Manage the adherence to work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), standard work documents, Safety Audits, JSA, etc.
  • Coordinate and partner with interdisciplinary teams such as maintenance, lean, quality, engineering, workers, other production lines and management.
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills, critical thinking, interfacing with engineering, management, direct labor, indirect labor, support functions, vendors, and service suppliers.
  • Lead problem solving activities through root cause analysis and associated tools: PDCA, DMAIC, 8P (9SPS), Fishbone, Kaizen, TPM, LOB, 5-Why.
  • Lead a team in Lean principals, practice, events:VSM, flow optimization, Push/Pull, Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, 6-sigma, TAKT time, Ghant charting.
  • Maintain high standards in safety, workplace ergonomics, JSA, hazard analysis, and corrective action plans.
  • You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

  • Employees are required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Employees are required to walk throughout the day. This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, including full shifts as part of the essential job and responsibilities.
  • The position requires the employee to be on-site during the scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
  • This position requires exposure to manufacturing work environments including noise, heat, and mechanical equipment.
  • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

The salary rate for this role is currently $62100-85300 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
