Job summary

Wabtec in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Radiator Shop Technician to assemble, disassemble, and test components using hand and power tools on a busy production line.

You will follow detailed work instructions, operate equipment such as magnetic drills and forklifts, maintain safety standards, and collaborate with operators, line leaders, supervisors, and quality control to ensure quality and on-time output.

Qualifications

  • Experience with overhead cranes is a plus.

Job Description

Who will you be working with:

As a Radiator Shop technician, you will work closely with production line operators, line leaders, and supervisors within your immediate work area. Your interactions will extend to quality control teams who verify component standards, safety manager ensuring workplace protocols, and the maintenance team to support equipment needs. Your role requires effective communication and collaboration across multiple teams to maintain manufacturing efficiency and product quality.

How would you make the difference:

This position is responsible for using a variety of hand and power tools, fixtures, work instructions to perform a series of operations to correctly disassemble, assemble, and test components in the Radiator Shop. Additionally, this position may be responsible for operation of equipment including magnetic drill, power washer, driving forklift, light welding, and overhead cranes. This position operates within a production line environment where each process feeds into or supports the next operation. Precision, quality and adherence to safety and process standards are critical to success in this role.

Monday - Thursday 5:00am - 3:30pm. This position might require flexibility to work overtime on Fridays and Saturdays.

  • High school degree or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of basic mechanics engineering, hand tools, and machine testing procedures.
  • Preferred: 1+ year of experience performing mechanical jobs, assembly and disassembly.
  • Experience working with overhead cranes is a plus, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Preferred : Mechanical training (votech or previous job experience) a plus but not required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently in English.

What will your typical day look like?
  • Follow detailed disassembly and assembly instructions, processes, and procedures.
  • Disassembles, assembles, and test components by utilizing hand and power tools.
  • Cleans and buffs, straighten components.
  • Wash components with a power washer.
  • Blowout parts to remove dirt and debris.
  • May require operation of a crane, forklift, light welding, and magnetic drill.
  • Understand the risks and safety requirements in each workstation to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Keep the area organized and free of clutter and trip hazards.
  • Adhere to all overhead crane requirements, rules, regulations, safety and proper operation.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with 5S protocol.
  • Make sure that schedules are running exactly as they are listed.
  • Understand output requirements and work efficiently to ensure hourly and daily goals are met.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) for teardown, assembly and testing of units.
  • Ensure equipment is operating properly, turn off equipment when not in use.
  • Attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Washing, Cleaning, organizing, preparing material, repairing parts, fixing quality issues, 5S, painting.
  • Must be willing to be cross trained.
  • Follow all safety protocols and adhere to all PPE requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in shop environment that is non-temperature-controlled production environment, with exposure to varying temperatures and other environmental factors.

The hourly rate for this role is currently $22.50 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
