Job summary

Kia Motors Group in Georgia, USA seeks a Quality Engineer to review internal and external quality indicators and ensure supplier quality of parts supplied to production.

You will lead cross-functional teams, drive continuous improvement, manage supplier development, and conduct audits aligned with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards. Travel up to 20% domestic and 10% international is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2 years’ experience in an automotive supplier quality engineering occupation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Up to 20% domestic travel, and 10% international travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Review current quality indicators to ensure supplier quality.
  • Lead special projects to improve Quality KPIs and drive results.
  • Initiate supplier development activities to improve part quality.
  • Support resolution of production issues such as non-conforming product.
  • Lead investigations and drive root-cause analysis and countermeasures.
  • Establish process control methods to drive production stability.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and lead inspectors; prepare reports.

General Summary

This position is responsible for reviewing current internal and external quality indicators and ensuring quality of parts provided by suppliers.

Essential duties and Responsibilities

Lead special projects as defined by management team, with emphasis on achieving results that positively impact the Quality KPIs. Initiate supplier development activities to ensure the quality of supplied parts. Provide support for resolution of production related issues such as non-conforming product, retrofits, etc. Lead problem-solving investigations related to internal and external quality indicators and drive continuous improvement through root cause and short-term / long-term counter measures. Establish process control methods to drive production stability. Lead cross functional teams, coordinate quality inspectors and assist other teams when needed, lead improvement initiatives related to department practices, to ensure both internal and external customer satisfaction. Prepare plans and reports for the Quality Department.

Qualifications/Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; foreign equivalents accepted. Foreign equivalents accepted.

Job Requirement

2 years’ experience in an automotive supplier quality engineering occupation within a manufacturing environment.

Or 4 years experience (no Bachelor’s degree required), in an automotive supplier quality engineering occupation within a manufacturing environment.

Up to 20% domestic travel, and 10% international travel required.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Management of a supplier quality department and inspection teams.
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Supplier audits based on compliance with ISO 9001
  • Supplier audits based on compliance with IATF 16949
  • Six Sigma SPC analysis and improvement (Ford)
  • 5S/Visual Management (JCI)
  • Leather cutting/sewing, automated welding processes and tests, plastics molding
  • Use of 8D, 5-Why, PDCA and Kaizen in manufacturing
  • Preparation of written and verbal reports to upper management.
