Job summary

Nordex SE is seeking an Assembly Operator - Mechanical Production Technician for the 2nd shift in West Branch, IA. You will build wind turbine components and support the assembly of nacelles, hubs, and drive trains according to quality and safety standards.

You will read engineering drawings, follow instructions, and collaborate with quality and engineering teams to improve processes. This role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on mechanical craftsmanship in a renewable-energy environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in mechanical assembly or heavy manufacturing.
• Ability to read work instructions and mechanical blueprints.
• Experience in wind turbine, automotive, or industrial equipment assembly.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components of wind turbines using hand and power tools.
• Follow detailed work instructions and drawings to ensure accuracy.
• Perform torquing, alignment, and fit-up of gearboxes, bearings, shafts.
• Conduct safety inspections and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Exceed production benchmarks by completing tasks within the designated timeframe.
• Handle materials by lifting, positioning, and removing them as needed.
• Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to improve assembly processes.
• Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support other production areas as needed and as assigned by the supervisor.
• In coordination with PQA and Engineering, conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
• Assist electrical assembly operators as required.

POSITION SUMMARY

The role of Assembly Operator- Mechanical Production Technician - directly supports the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. As an Assembly Operator- Mechanical Production Technician, you will play a key role in building the structural and mechanical components of wind turbines, including the nacelle (Machine House), hubs, and drive trains according to established quality, safety and environmental procedures. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in mechanical assembly, construction, or automotive work who are passionate about renewable energy and precision craftsmanship.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Assemble mechanical components of wind turbines using hand tools, power tools, and overhead cranes.
• Follow detailed work instructions and engineering drawings to ensure accurate builds.
• Perform torquing, alignment, and fit-up of large components such as gearboxes, bearings, and shafts.
• Conduct safety inspections and maintain a clean, organized work area to present work related injuries.
• Exceed our production benchmarks by completing specific tasks within the designated timeframe, playing a key role in the collective success of our team objectives.
• Handle materials by lifting, positioning, and/or removing them from the work area as needed.
• Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to improve assembly processes.
• Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support other production areas as needed and as assigned by the supervisor.
• In coordination with PQA and Engineering Departments, conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of potential production problems.
• Assist electrical assembly operators as required.

WHAT YOU HAVE

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Mechanical certifications or technical training.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical assembly or heavy manufacturing.
• Ability to read work instructions.
• Experience in wind turbine, automotive, or industrial equipment assembly.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience.
• Commitment to safety and quality standards.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
• Strong work ethic and dedication to completing tasks.
• Responsible and accountable for actions and decisions.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
• Ability to read mechanical blueprints and technical documentation.
• Experience with overhead crane operation.
• Ability to achieve and maintain crane operator certification (Required).
• Proficiency in using torque tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, and measuring instruments.
• Must be able to pass a respiratory fit test (as Required).
• Working at heights.
• Understanding of ISO 9000:2000 Quality System is a plus.
