Job summary

Joyce/Dayton Corp. in Portland, IN is seeking an Assembly Operator I to safely and efficiently assemble products that meet quality standards. You will interpret work orders, drawings, and specifications, collect parts, and perform assembly with attention to safety and lean practices.

The role is hourly, non-exempt, reporting to the Assembly & Fulfillment Supervisor, with opportunities to cross-train and contribute to continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school degree or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical assembly experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Team player mentality.
  • Basic crane and forklift experience.
  • Own basic tools.
  • Assembly blueprint reading skills.
  • Capable of understanding and following written and verbal work instructions.
  • Understanding of BOMs (bills of materials).
  • Capable of understanding and following routing information.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory systems.
  • Basic knowledge of products.
  • Basic record keeping abilities.
  • Ability to communicate with and work closely with others, including scheduling, quality, and production control.
  • Minimal troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Ability to inspect work and meet quality expectations.
  • Ability to identify and share process improvement ideas, a lean thinker.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Continually inspect products and processes throughout assembly.

  • Cross-train with other assembler team members.
  • Adhere to specific procedures and production schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
