Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems in Grand Rapids, MI seeks an experienced Wire Harness Assembler II. You will build complex wire harnesses from schematics, read engineering docs, and perform precision crimping, soldering, and terminations to IPC standards.

You will mentor Level I staff, assist with new products from prototype to production, and support continuous improvement while maintaining safety and quality documentation.

Qualifications

  • No attendance write ups in the last 6 months.
  • No performance write ups in the last 6 months.
  • Most recent performance assessment must be Achieves or higher.
  • Consistently meets production standards.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail with minimal defects or rework.
  • Proven experience with complex or prototype harness builds.
  • Leadership and mentoring capability.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Can set the right example and be a good role model.
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble complex wire harnesses using schematics, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist with new products and process development from prototype to production launches.
  • Learn setup and operation of equipment across manufacturing areas.
  • Read and interpret process instructions, drawings, BOMs, and schematics.
  • Perform advanced crimping, soldering, and termination to IPC standards.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and work instructions for assembly.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections for quality compliance.
  • Troubleshoot basic issues and suggest corrective actions.
  • Maintain production and quality documentation.
  • Assist with training Level I assemblers and new employees.
  • Support continuous improvement and safety/quality standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to improve build processes.

Role Summary

The Wire Harness Assembler II is an experienced assembler responsible for building complex wire harnesses, interpreting detailed drawings, and ensuring high-quality workmanship. This role requires minimal supervision and will assist with training/mentoring Level I employees.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble complex wire harnesses and assemblies using schematics, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist with new products and process development from prototype to new production launches.
  • Ability and capacity to learn the setup and operation of equipment across the manufacturing areas.
  • Must be able to read and interpret the manufacturing process instructions, visual aids/drawings, and Engineering documentation to include technical drawing requirements, BOMS, and Schematics.
  • Perform advanced crimping, soldering, and termination operations to IPC standards.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or work instructions to perform required tasks to complete a portion of, or entire assembly of intermediate to complex level work.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections to ensure quality compliance.
  • Troubleshoot basic assembler issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
  • Assist with training and mentoring Level I assemblers and new employees.
  • Support continuous improvement and manufacturing initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to resolve issues and continuously improve build processes.
  • Ensure adherence to procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment
  • Disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test production or protype assemblies and sub-assemblies according to specifications.
  • Maintain work area compliance to all Standards including but not limited to; all required materials are to be labeled and properly stored; each work area used must be cleaned after use; all tools are to be put away when not in use; Work Order packets are to remain with their corresponding jobs with all documents accounted for.

  • FIRST SHIFT 5:00am-2:30pm - Monday-Thursday 5:00am-1:30pm - Every other Friday
