The role includes reading detailed prints, training others, leading a small team, and ensuring quality and safety; the work environment is fast-paced in a clean production area with standard shifts.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ experience assembling products or following processes.
  • Able to read and follow detailed prints and work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble products according to detailed specs and customer requirements.
  • Magnetize, demagnetize and assemble components with minimal supervision.
  • Train other assemblers and provide first piece approval as needed.
  • Lead and work with an assembly team on complex, high‑volume products.

Job description

Magnetic Component Engineering (“MCE”), a subsidiary of Dexter Magnetic Technologies (“Dexter”), manufactures permanent magnets and magnetic assemblies made to demanding customer specification in the aerospace / defense, semiconductor equipment, medical, and industrial end markets. MCE is based in Torrance, CA and operates one 48,000 square foot facility with 85 employees.

Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position

This position is responsible for magnetizing, demagnetizing and assemblies from the very simple to very complex products with minimal supervision.

Major Responsibilities – reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
  • An expert in the use and maintenance of magnetizing, demagnetizing and marking procedures and equipment used at DMT.
  • Can train other assemblers in the use of this equipment as well as assembly techniques.
  • Can provide first piece approval and limited supervision of other assemblers.
  • Able to follow detailed prints and work instructions to assemble even the most complex and detailed magnet assemblies.
  • Able to read and follow detailed quality, customer and safety requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Lean Manufacturing techniques and can assist the cell leader and supervisor in improving assembly processes and work areas.
  • Observes DMT quality, safety and customer related process procedures.
  • Able to enter tracking information on work-orders and quality related documents as well as entry and retrieval of information on computer records.
  • Able to lead and work with an assembly team, especially in larger, more complex, or high volume products.
  • Must maintain a neat work environment.
  • Fairly dynamic, as requirements grow and change with the addition of new products.
  • Demanding, as customer requirements place a growing importance on quality conformance, response time and meeting deadlines.
  • Challenging, as technical expertise in a wide variety of industries is essential for success.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

Hourly Rate $20.00

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience assembling products or following processes.
Successful Essential Skills
  • Strong listening and communication skills. Must be able to read and understand the QMS System, material in Train Caster and be able to read and follow work instructions both verbally and in writing.
  • High attention to detail: focus on accuracy, completeness and following standards, rules and requirements.
  • Strong eye-hand coordination with near visual acuity.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Works in a clean and well-lit production environment. Some of the environment is air-conditioned.
  • Work is done in a production environment and is fast paced.
  • Assemblers working in the clean room must also wear suits and hair nets. No jewelry or make up can be worn in the clean room.
  • Assemblers must wear protective foot and eyewear.
  • 50% Standing on cement floors with rubber mats, 30% Sitting, 10% Stooping and Bending and 10% Walking during an 8- or 10-hour day.
  • Lift and transport an average weight 15 lbs., maximum 40 lbs.using carts.
  • Manual dexterity of both hands.
  • Near Visual Acuity (either corrected or uncorrected).
Interactions
  • Daily contacts with Assembly Supervisor, other warehouse and assembly personnel and other plant personnel involved in producing or assembling Dexter products.

Hourly Range depending on experience - $20-$23 per hour

Failure to follow the quality system processes can result in non-conforming parts which can result in a failure at the customer stage.
