Job summary

SPX Technologies is seeking an Assembler I in Madison, Alabama. Job description

The Assembler I position is responsible for independently assembling cooling towers or complete custom air handling systems, including all mechanical and modular components, in accordance with engineering drawings, build orders, specifications, and quality standards. The role performs mechanical assembly, system integration, troubleshooting, fit‑up, and final assembly activities associated with engineered‑to‑order air handling equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble, adjust, and install prefabricated parts to manufacture air handling systems
  • Perform various adjustments, settings, and fine‑tuning operations necessary for assembly
  • Interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, bills of material, and engineering revisions accurately
  • Assemble and install mechanical, structural, and modular system components including fan sections, coils, dampers, filter systems, access sections, electrical mounting components, and related assemblies
  • Independently assemble complete custom air handling units from start to finish using engineering drawings, specifications, and build orders
  • Assist with assembly of fan sections, coil sections, filter sections, dampers, and related air handling system components
  • Earn and apply proper assembly, fastening, sealing, gasketing, and fit‑up techniques required for air handling equipment
  • Utilize hand tools, pneumatic tools, measuring devices, and standard assembly equipment safely; operate overhead cranes, forklifts, man lifts, and material handling equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and resolve simple assembly or fit‑up issues while escalating more complex issues appropriately
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with company standards
  • Participate in cross‑training activities to develop skills across multiple assembly stations and processes
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in improving assembly efficiency and workflow
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Experience & Skills
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn mechanical assembly processes
  • Ability to follow work instructions, assembly drawings, and verbal direction accurately
  • Ability to perform basic assembly, fastening, sealing, and fit‑up activities
  • Ability to safely utilize hand tools, pneumatic tools, measuring devices, and standard assembly equipment
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, forklifts, man lifts, and material handling equipment safely and effectively
  • Ability to develop blueprint reading and assembly interpretation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented manufacturing environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing production schedules and work assignments
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, attendance, and continuous improvement
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous manufacturing, mechanical assembly, construction, fabrication, or industrial experience preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude required
  • Previous experience using hand tools, pneumatic tools, or measuring devices preferred
  • Ability to learn blueprint reading and assembly processes required
  • Forklift, crane, or man lift certification preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment required
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards required

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds; 50+ pounds with assistance

  • Ability of using both hands overhead
  • Perform repetitive motions
  • Plant environment with potential exposure to all types of weather, including excessive heat, excessive cold, and excessive noise
