Job summary

IMI is seeking an entry-level assembler in Illinois for 1st shift, starting at $19/hr. You will perform basic mechanical or electrical assembly from blueprints, following prescribed routines under supervision.

Emphasis on safety, accuracy, and teamwork to support production goals. Responsibilities include reading instructions, using gauges, and maintaining clean work areas while adhering to quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and instructions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and operate measuring devices.
  • Awareness of basic machine tools and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble parts from blueprints and work instructions into higher level assemblies.
  • Follow safety guidelines and wear proper PPE.
  • Maintain records in plant management system and follow procedures.
  • Keep work area clean and organized for safety and compliance.
  • Perform checks with gauges and fixtures to ensure conformance to specs.
  • Collaborate with team and align with IMI leadership expectations.
  • Report discrepancies to supervisor during assembly.
  • Safely operate shop tools and perform press operation, sizing, notching, and clean-up.
  • Strive to meet quality goals and correct defective workmanship.
  • Maintain high accuracy in assembly to produce quality products.

Role Overview

First of three levels of assembler (entry); highly repetitive, simple short-cycle mechanical or electrical assembly of assemblies and sub assemblies. Follows prescribed routine where method of assembly is fairly simple. Assembles parts and devices to support production needs with basic supervision. Requires ability to follow written instructions and basic prints.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work from blueprints and work instructions to assemble parts into higher level assemblies.
  • Follows all safety guidelines including utilization of proper PPE.
  • Follows proper operating procedures and maintains proper records in accordance within plant management system.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized to insure safety and environmental compliance.
  • Performs checks using variety of gauges and fixtures to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Demonstrates positive relations and teamwork as established in the IMI Way and Leadership Blueprint within the organization.
  • Note any drawing or instruction discrepancies to the Area Lead/ Supervisor during assembly.
  • Exercise proficient use and safety of basic shop tools (drill press, sandblasting, grinders and de-burring, and hand tools).
  • Perform all operations and instructions related to manufacturing, including Press Operation, Sizing, Notching and Maintaining clean work area.
  • Achieve Quality goals and improve Quality standards, including immediately correcting any defective workmanship.
  • Maintain high accuracy during assembly to provide high quality products.

Critical Competencies for Success
  • High school Diploma/GED
  • Ability to read basic blueprints
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, ability to learn use of measuring devices, and basic machine tools (e.g., drill press, grinders, sanders, saws, etc.).
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer skill
