Job summary

Sealift Command seeks a Third Officer (In Training) to join a developmental program aboard MSC vessels worldwide. The role blends shore-based training with limited underway experience, progressing toward full credentialing as a Third Officer under supervision of senior officers.

The trainee will build navigation, watchstanding, and operational skills while completing certifications and training milestones. A clear path to full qualification provides growth into leadership duties in the Deck

Qualifications

• Must be a United States Citizen aged 18+.
• Possess and maintain a valid U.S. Passport with at least 10 months remaining.
• MMC endorsed for Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, FH with at least 10 months remaining.
• Experience in leadership, navigation, ship handling, engineering, damage control, or maritime warfare (1,080 days deck dept).

Responsibilities

• Assist Deck Department under supervision of MSC engineering leadership and grow independent technical skills.
• Support preventive maintenance, recordkeeping, and QA observations.
• Engage in underway periods after training prerequisites are met.
• Contribute to safety, security, environmental, and emergency response programs.
