Job summary

AlphaHire in Richmond, VA seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support commercial construction and renovation projects in a general contractor environment. You will grow toward full project ownership, coordinating with PMs, superintendents, subcontractors, and design teams to keep projects moving.

The role emphasizes documentation control, scheduling, RFIs/submittals, and cost tracking, with a pathway to independent management responsibilities. A degree in CM or related field is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in commercial construction or related roles.
• Experience with general contractor on commercial projects.
• Strong understanding of drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and project documentation.
• Ability to collaborate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, superintendents, and clients.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction project management or document-control software.
• Strong organizational and follow-through skills managing multiple active projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering; equivalent field experience considered.
• Residential-only construction experience not sufficient.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers through all phases of commercial construction projects, from preconstruction through closeout.
• Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, project correspondence, and other documentation.
• Assist with subcontractor scope review, scheduling, procurement, and follow-up on outstanding requirements.
• Review drawings and specifications to identify scope conflicts and missing information.
• Maintain project schedules and track progress against milestones; escalate delays.
• Participate in owner, architect, subcontractor, and project meetings, documenting action items.
• Assist with cost tracking, commitments, change orders, invoices, and other financial documentation.
• Conduct job-site visits to verify progress and support field communication.
• Support punch list, closeout, warranty, and turnover activities toward full project ownership.
