Job summary

Wissahickon Charter School is seeking an Apprentice Teacher for 6-8th Math & Science for the 2026-2027 school year. This role is ideal for recent graduates or career changers pursuing a pathway into teaching and welcomes candidates in teacher education programs.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students in an urban school setting preferred.
• Reflective and open to feedback and coaching.
• Commitment to honest dialogue about race, equity and bias in our school systems.
• Ability to work with colleagues who have diverse teaching and organizational styles.

Responsibilities

• Plan collaboratively with two to four lead teachers.
• Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students for additional academic support.
• Substitute teach when a lead teacher is out.
• Partner with lead teachers to implement curriculum and routines with consistency.
• Work closely with lead teachers to assess, track and analyze student progress.
• Lead a teaching elective, special, and/or study hall.
• As instructional skills increase, provide whole group instruction in select subjects.
• Participate in ongoing professional development.
• Complete administrative duties as necessary (data entry, homework review, filing, copying).
• Support intake, dismissal and transitions between classes.
• Assist lead teachers and/or the Principals with other responsibilities.
