Job summary

Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School is seeking a Teacher Apprentice to observe, learn, and co-teach in classrooms. You will support tutors, grade, and provide substitute coverage while building hands-on teaching skills and a pathway to a full-time teaching role within 1–2 years.

The role emphasizes collaboration with deans, instructional coaches, and student mentoring, with summers and school-year professional development to grow teaching abilities. Hours align with school schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a specific subject area or education is preferred.
• Enrollment in a Bachelor's program with a major or minor in Education and at least 60 credits is required.
• Some teaching or tutoring experience is preferred.
• Experience supporting teachers through coaching or directing.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and needs.
• Experience and general understanding of educational administration.

Responsibilities

• Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders who are observing other teachers.
• Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
• Teach one class or small groups of students.
• Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility.
• Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school.
• Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily, and small group intervention and student support.
• Observe teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
• Meet regularly with a coach to implement feedback on lessons and instruction.
• Teach or help coordinate an elective class.
• Build effective relationships amongst teachers, parents, and the community to improve school culture.
• Foster a school climate that supports the school’s mission statement; promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff and parents.
