Job summary

LRS Recycles is seeking a Shop Manager in Training (SMIT), a six-month development program designed to prepare high-potential technicians to independently run an LRS fleet maintenance shop.

The SMIT works with an assigned Shop Manager mentor to learn preventive maintenance planning, supervision, DOT/OSHA compliance, parts and inventory control, vendor and warranty management, budget accountability, and uptime performance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• 3+ years hands-on heavy-duty diesel or heavy equipment maintenance experience, or a related associate degree plus experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and dispatch preventive maintenance and repairs across a fleet.
• Supervise shop staff and coordinate shifts across multiple roles.
• Diagnose heavy-duty diesel systems and validate repair quality.
• Monitor PM compliance and uptime; identify root causes for improvements.
• Coordinate vendor and warranty repairs, including towing and dealer work.
• Support budget planning and cost management for the shop.
• Lead training and certification tracking (ASE, DOT brake inspector, welding).
• Read and manage a shop maintenance budget and KPI reporting.
